Start with the disclosure: EasyUnZip uses 7-Zip. The decompression is theirs, bundled in our installer. So this compares two ways of driving the same engine.
The disclosure, first
EasyUnZip does not implement decompression. It ships the official 7-Zip binaries -7z.exe and 7z.dll - and drives them. 7z.dll is LGPL, so its licence and third-party notices are installed alongside it and you may replace it with a compatible official build. That is the licence working as intended, and it is why RAR support here is real rather than approximate.

Choose 7-Zip when
- You need to create archives. EasyUnZip cannot, at all.
- You open formats beyond ZIP and RAR - 7z, TAR, ISO, DMG. EasyUnZip ignores every one of them.
- You want a command line, or to script extraction.
- You want to look inside an archive and take one file out by dragging it.
- You would rather not pay for software, which is an entirely respectable position about a tool this size.
Choose EasyUnZip when
- Extraction is a thing you do constantly and you have started resenting the number of clicks.
- You routinely handle several archives at once and want them routed differently without doing them one at a time.
- You want a specific file type out of a large archive without the rest touching disk.
- You want the decisions - where, what, on collision - asked once and then never again for that job.
- $3 once, covering 3 PCs, is worth those minutes to you.
The honest summary
7-Zip is the more capable program by a wide margin, it is free, and it is inside EasyUnZip. If you want the most archive software for the least money, the answer is 7-Zip and it is not close.
EasyUnZip is a smaller thing: a way of driving that engine that removes the window, the menu and the repetition from the one task most people actually use it for. That is worth $3 to some people and nothing to others, and 14 free days is how you find out which you are without paying to guess.
